Thanks for keeping us up to date with more information, including the shortlist on the website!
I am really looking forward to seeing more games on the shortlist!
Who has played 'Opera' or 'Vasco da Gama' so far? I found a negative review from 'Dice tower review' about 'Vasco da Gama': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFLYxGIPu0Y
So, after seeing this review I really would like to hear some positive reactions from people who have played it :-)
Regards!
p.s. The rank of 'Vasco da Gama' on boargamegeek is good --> 86.

Another possible game could be Egizia.

We did :) And recently Vasco da Gama was, together with Fresco, the most popular game at a "Spieletreff" in Germany where we stayed and played for several days.
I myself can't place the reaction of Dice Tower and have to disagree. But it is free for everyone to have likes and dislikes of games/lsyouts/mechanisms.

Vasco (and also Fresco!) are really fab games, special for tournaments. Like them both, both have their luck impacts, but not overdone. Would love to see them both!
A game I have only played once, but that might be worth a closer look is Wallace's "Automobile" (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/39351/automobile).
Shorter games are indeed a problem, but I just can vote clearely against Jäger&Sammler. It is overdone with a luck impact, the one who starts to game has to be a fool not to win the game. Very unbalanced in that "detail". (as he can easly be the first in the second half of the game as well and so has twice a huge advantage) Think the stats of the DM showed it clearly as well. So a definately "contra" from me here! (would love to have a veto *lol*)
What about Roll Through the ages (only have heared from it yet, but sounds promissing) and Finca?
(Finca is a game I could imagine quite well on a tournament as a faster/shorter game, jsut have to add that I haven't olayed it enough yet to know if its balanced enough for a tournament, but it seemed so)
Best,
Josefine

look at "Albion" from Amigo, its published in Essen 2009, has nearly no luck, 75 minutes playtime.
Its a often overseen game because name and graphic is not very eye-catching, but in my opinion it's a perfect tournament game!

I thought Opera was bit unbalanced, seems first you have way to few gold, and later way to much. Also it seems that getting a lot of theatres is a lot better than getting one big, because in the end you score points with the red chambers and for a big theatre you can score with the purple marker ofcourse but you will lose your best componist to someone else, and others can still benefit as well of yur choice without paying the 4 gold. Still it's a nice game, but might not be best for a tournement. Played it only 2 times though, so might be more in it than noticable at first sight.

Well I think Finca is not the best possible game. It can't be won with bare luck, but it still has a large luck Factor in fruit tiles.
How about Peloponnes?
