Rules clarification
Rules clarifications
The following (clarification of) rules are specific for the European Championships. The clarification could differ of those posted on other websites/publications even from the publisher. Clarifications posted here are leading for the tournament.

General

- Sequence and time-schedule of play is:

10:00 - 10:20 Registration

10:30 - 11:30 Yspahan

11:45 - 13:00 Origo

13:45 - 15:15 Leonardo da Vinci

15:30 - 17:30 Die Säulen der Erde/Pillars of the Earth

17:45            And the European Champions of 2007 are...

- Seating is assigned per game, so the starting player is not based on the way described in the rules. Player 1 of each team will be starting player for Yspahan, player no2 will be seated on 2nd spot at the table, etc etc. The second round (Origo), player 2 of the team will be starting player, player 3 will be seated on 2nd spot, player 4 on 3rd spot and player 1 is last player. For Leonardo da Vinci each 3rd player of the team is starting player and with Die Säulen der Erde the last player of each team is starting player

- English rules, translation of cards and board pieces may be put on the table as reference. They may not be used as playing pieces.

- It is prohibited during gameplay to negotiate with/persuade or influence other players. Though most players just want to give good advice, most of the time this is rather subjective and will benefit their own. You should rely on other players that they judge the gaming situation right and make the best possible move for THEIR own benefit.

- It is not allowed to use paper/pencil to take notes during gameplay regarding cards taken, goods receipt etc which could give you a benefit compared to the other players.

Yspahan

- Number of cubes in each players colour (25 pcs), the camels and gold are unlimited in amount. In case you run out of cubes, inform a referee. He will provide replacements.

- By playing the combination of cards 'build a building with no camels' and 'build a building with no gold', the building is build for free (no costs at all).

- In case a player has 2 unfinished shops in 1 neighborhood, belonging to 2 different souks, he may place shops in these souks and must do so before starting a new souk in this neighborhood. Sentence 'You may not put cubes in a souk if you already have an unfinished souk in the same neighborhood' should be replaced by 'You may not put cubes in a new souk if you already have  unfinished souks in the same neighborhood'.

- Multiple buildings can be build at the same turn if you have the resources to do so. Note that the bonus card where you can build a building without camels or gold do only apply for 1 single building.

- Cards can be used right away when you draw them and only in your own turn.

`- The shop (+2 gold) and the paddock (+1 camel) is only in effect when you choose the appropiate pile of dice. So if you choose to build in one of the souks you do not get addiotnal gold or camel. Only when you explicit choose for the camels, you get an extra camel added to the number of dice.

- In case the supervisor is able to remove 2 cubes. The player who moved the supervisor determines the sequence. If the caravan is full after the removal of the first cube, the point value of the caravan is accounted for and emptied afterwards. The second cube comes on the starting position of the caravan.

- At the end of each week the supervisor returns to the center of the board.

- Is the supervisor reaches the end of his path and have steps left over the player moving the supervisor has to pay gold (or use the Hammam) for the excess movements. Otherwise he has to move the supervisor to the opposite direction. For example. The supervisor has 1 field left before running of the board and you choose a movement of 5. Then the movement has to be compensated by 4 gold.

- It is possible to reduce the movement of the supervisor to 0 (note you can not choose to forfeit the dice and have the supervisor move 0 spaces) by paying gold/using the Hammam. If so the supervisor still removes cube(s) to the caravan.

- Caravanserai. For each of your cubes removed by the supervisor you may draw a card.

Origo

 - Movement of boats can be split up with other actions. For example. Moving boat A, do an expansion and then move boat B is eligible.

-Tribal domination. In order to get the 2 additional victory points all fields in a country must be occupied by your shields. No empty fields are allowed for this bonus

- The population card (Bevölkerung) may also played in defence, also when defending shield is a solitair shield

- The population card may also be played on sea spaces

- 2x attack on the same field is allowed

- Attacking a sea space is only possible if ALL sea spaces for specific sea area are occupied. A sea area is identified by area name. for example "Nordsee" and "Ostsee" are 2 sea areas.

- For moving shields take into account the field where the shield started from. It does not matter if it crosses several land and sea fields in reaching its destination as long as it follows a line over shields in its own colour.

- If scoring takes place with 2 or more players are equally placed. Example if 2 or more players have the same amount of shields in a country they get the amount of points -/- 1 level. So if 3 players have first place in a country they get each the point value for place 2 (the next/last player will be 4th). Scoring pawns are in this case moved forward in sequence of starting player (accounts only for players with equal amount of victory points scored).

- Starting player put his/her pawn on the arrow field next to the 100 value field (= first arrow field).

- Scoring of clans. First the rule applies that in case 2 or more players have an equal sized clan they get the point value of the next rank. For example, then any possible multiplication because a player has clans of the same size. If 2 players (A & B) both have the biggest clan (size 7 shields, player B has 2 clans of size 7), the value of the clans are 6 points instead of 8. Player A scores 6 points and player B scores 2x6 points.

Leonardo_FAQ.pdf

Leonardo da Vinci

- Starting set-up for Experts is being used (optional rule).

- Optional rule codex Leonardo will NOT be used

- The zero card is a bluffing card. It will not nullify the whole bid, just counts as value 0.

- For an invention you must put the exact components under a laboratory. You may not include the zero card.

- Inventions/auctions will be resolved in order starting with the player who is holding Leonardo (see FAQ)

- The number of resource cards left in the shops are open (can be counted)

- EuropeMasters tournement rule: placing goods under laboratory is secret (as well as picking out the invention)

- At the end of round 7 it will be the last time that inventions are replenished. So round 8 will start with a full set of inventions. If in round 8 inventions are completed the free spaces are not replenished anymore with new inventions.

- The bonus of time reduction for an invention when you already have an invention of the same type/symbol is cumulative. So 2 green inventions give you the right of a discount of 4 weeks for another green invention. NOTE: the discount is not in effect for inventions completed i the same round. For example if you complete 2 green inventions at the same none will benefit from eachother.

- Council. In the German rules there is a translation error. If all players have pawn(s) in the council the player with pawns ranked as lowest will have to remove his pawns from the council and does not get a benefit. Not the player with the fewest pawns (as this could be more than 1 player).

Die Säulen der Erde

- Event card that a new town wall must be built which result in that next round each player may only place 2 master builders. In this case all master builders will be put in the black bag and drawn like normal. If for a player his 3rd master builder is being drawn, this master builder piece is put aside. So the master builder pawns are not sorted out beforehand!

- You may sell goods at the market even is the market is full. Note: sellinig goods to the market does not replenish any empty spaces in the market due to a previous buying action. Also yo umay not buy goods and sell them afterwards (just to deplete the market for other players).

- Step 13 Cathedral. You can perfrom the abilities of the artisans in your own sequence. So it is possible to first have the carpenter have wood transfered into gold (costs 1 wood/4 gold) and then use the goldsmith to turn this gold into victory points.

- The extra goods from advantage cards (Aliena, Richard, Tom Builder) apply also when you have no workers on the corresponding resource card. These goods are collected during steps 6-8 (collecting income).

- You may place multiple master builders on a step (for example market) if there is room available.

- Resources are limited to the cubes in game. In case of (unlikely) event that resource inventory is depleted, resources are taken in sequence of play.
